Kuwait Consul General and permanent delegate to the organization of Islamic Cooperation Youssuf Al-Tenib
JEDDAH, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait reaffirms commitment to working with the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to deliver humanitarian and political support to the Palestinian people.
In a speech on behalf of Kuwait to the emergency meeting of the OIC Executive Committee in Jeddah on Thursday, the country's Consul General and permanent delegate to the organization Youssuf Al-Tenib stressed the need of helping the Palestinians' righteous voice reach the international community and ensuring fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
"It's a compelling responsibility for us, as Muslim countries, to make tangible steps to support the disaster-hit Muslim communities, alleviate the suffering of the brotherly people of Palestine, and protect the sanctity of sacred sites and legitimate rights," he pointed out.
"The State of Kuwait believes that its unlikely to establish security and peace in the region without ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land, and empowering the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital," he stressed.
The Kuwaiti diplomat urged the international community to force the Israeli occupation authorities into halting their illegitimate practices and abiding by the rules of the international law.
"The State of Kuwait stresses that the Palestine question, including the holy Jerusalem, remains to be a central issue for the Muslim world," he said, reaffirming rejection of any measures to change the historical and legal status quo of the occupied Palestinian territories. (end)
