KUWAIT, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- 1942 -- The State of Kuwait Goverment, under reign of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, agreed with a British company to install telephone lines for Sheikhs and a number of merchants.
1956 -- Telephone ervices provided by the British telecommunication company were nationalized and named the department of cables of telephone.
1958 -- The first government post office was opened near the Department of Finance in the Safat square. The first Kuwaiti stamps issued in 13 different types with pictures of the Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah or scenes of Kuwait.
1959 -- State of Kuwait took over responsibility of overseas postal services following approval of the British Government.
1970 -- The first publication of the Kuwait Teachers Society was issued.
1977 -- The first issue of the English "Arab Times" was published as a weekly to become a daily later.
1979 -- Kuwait Medical Genetic Center (KMGC) was opened with a task of conducting research and studies. KMGC consists of clinics and a laboratory.
1986 -- The first issue of the children's educational magazine Al-Arabi Al-Sagheer, a monthly published by the ministry of information, was published.
2005 -- Kuwait Parliament approved a draft law forwarded by the government addressing the issue of weapon and explosives' search and inspection.
2013 -- State of Kuwait was ranked first in the Gulf and region, and 3rd amongst Arab countries in freedom of press and safety of journalists, after Comoros and Mauritania.
2014 -- Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) signed a USD 225 million seismic survey contract with WesternGeco, a subsidiary of Schlumberger.
2016 -- Writer and journalist Sulaiman Al-Huzami, whose plays won many awards, passed away at the age of 71.
2024 -- Dr. Abdulrazzaq Al-Obaid was unanimously elected as chairman of the Pan-Arab Spine Society (PASS), the first Kuwaiti surgeon to hold this position. (end) mbr.nsn.bs
