US Transportation Sec: Airbus updates won't cause major disruption

WASHINGTON, Nov 30 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy has said updates necessary for Airbus planes would not cause major disruption in air transport sector, already busy because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
"I've been in close contact with Airbus about their software update recall for the A320 and the airlines that use them," Duffy said in a statement on X late Saturday.
"Working with my team and the FAA, US carriers jumped into action to complete these updates quickly with minimal disruptions. Thankfully, only a small percentage of flying aircraft nationwide required this immediate software patch," he added.
All impacted US carriers have reported great progress, and are on track to meet the deadline of this Sunday at midnight to complete the work, noted Duffy.
"Travelers SHOULD NOT expect any major disruptions. Be on the lookout for communication from your airlines," he said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive (EAD) for certain Airbus A319 and A320/321 models, requiring replacing or modifying the software that controls the airplanes' elevator ailerons.
The FAA's action mirrors an EAD from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, which certificates Airbus airplanes. (end) asj.bs
