Establishment of METGF, based in Kuwait -- Dr. Al-Mousawi

KUWAIT, Oct 7 (KUNA) -- Hamed Al-Esa Organ Transplantation Centre Chairman
and Kuwait Transplant Society (KTS) Vice President Dr. Mustafa Al-Mousawi said
Thursday that the Middle East Transplant Games Federation (METGF) has been
officially established here.
He told KUNA that the METGF aims to promote fitness, health and sports
activities amongst recipients and donors of organ and bone marrow transplants.
He added after the meeting which was organized by KTS that the METGF
members who participated in the meeting today approved a new charter for the
federation and selected Turkey to host the second Middle East Transplant Games
in 2005.
Dr. Al-Mousawi was elected as chairman, the Turkish Remzi Emiroglu as
secretary general and the Saudi Abdulkareem Al-Gasser as treasurer.
The KTS organized the first games in February 2001 with a participation of
ten countries representing Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Tunisia, Sudan, Jordan,
Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and Kuwait. The Kuwaiti transplant team has won 14
medals including three gold and five silver.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar,
Lebanon, Sudan, Turkey and KTS members. (end)
