Kuwait regrets deterioration of human rights situation in Myanmar's Rakhine

GENEVA, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait expressed profound concern over the continued deterioration of the human rights situation in Rakhine State, west Myanmar.
The Muslim Rohingya community undergo serious abuses, including forced deportation, denial of basic rights, physical violence and hate speech, said the third secretary of Kuwait Permanent Mission to the UN Office in Geneva Ahmad Salmin on Friday.
He made the comments during interactive dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk as part of the 61st session of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The Kuwaiti diplomat urged the OHCHR to act urgently to the human rights abuses and force those responsible to halt them immediately.
He stressed the need of scaling up the regional and international efforts to find a fair and permanent solution to the Rohingyas crisis, ensure their right to return safely to their homes and protect their civil and political rights away from any discrimination.
On behalf of Kuwait, Salmin underscored the importance of respect for the principles of the UN Charter and the International Humanitarian law, and ensuring accountability, justice and human dignity for all people.
He called for safe and unhindered access to humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people and providing the necessary support to refugee host countries, particularly Bangladesh. (end) imk.maa.gb
