KUWAIT, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- The Arab Humanitarian Action Centre Award embodies Kuwait's distinguished humanitarian contributions, which saw His Highness the Amir and Kuwait being honoured as humanitarian leader and humanitarian centre respectively, an official said on Monday.
The award, which has opened the door for applications until the end of the month, is witnessing a huge number turnout, said Public Authority for Youth Director-General Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.
Three finalists will be handed prize money worth a total USD 105,500, the first of whom will receive USD 33,000.
It targets initiatives focused on six categories, including water, education, health, transportation, energy and agriculture.
One of the award's main sponsors, Kuwait Red Crescent, is confident the prize would provide youngsters with the impetus to do more in regards to humanitarian work.
The large number of people applying to join the many volunteer teams in Kuwait is a clear sign of the country's generosity and appreciation of humanitarian action, said the society's volunteers' head Musaed Al-Enezi. (end) fsa.sd
