US designates Hizbul Mujahideen as terrorist organization

WASHINGTON, Aug 16 (KUNA) -- The US designated Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on Wednesday for their attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Department announced.
HM is one of the oldest militant groups in Kashmir and was founded in 1989. It is led by designated terrorist Mohammad Yusuf Shah.
"Today's action notifies the US public and the international community that HM is a terrorist organization. Terrorism designations expose and isolate organizations and individuals, and deny them access to the US financial system," according to the State Department. (end) ak.rk
