Lebanese protesters block several roads over worsening economic conditions

BEIRUT, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- A number of Lebanese people blocked on Tuesday traffic in several roads inside and outside the capital Beirut to protest against the deteriorating economic and living conditions.
The Lebanese currency Lira depreciated further as one US dollar has reached a historic level of 54,000 lira driving prices of all products and commodities, particularly energy, crazy.
The official news agency (NNA) reported that protesters blocked roads with brunt tires in Al-Saifi and Al-Salomi districts in Beirut. They also blocked the Sidon-Tyre Highway at the Bablieh junction, in both directions.
Drivers of public buses also staged a protest and closed the northern entry of Beirut.
Head of the Lebanon economic institutions Mohammad Shouker warned against the impact of the accelerated depreciation of the local currency on commodity prices. (end) ayb.ibi
