World's fatwa authorities warn of continued Israeli digging under Al-Aqsa

CAIRO, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- The General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide (GSFAW) has "strongly" warned against the continuity of the Israeli digging under Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Judaization of Jerusalem.
A GSFAW statement affirmed that the digging work under the mosque constitutes "severe threat to Al-Aqsa amid the Israeli occupation's continued endeavors to Judaize Jerusalem," Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta media center said on Thursday.
Secretary General of the Fatwa Authorities Worldwide Dr. Ibrahim Negm denounced the progression of digging and speeding up judaization of the city, capitalizing on the December 6 decision by the US President Donald Trump's that overtly recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
He explained that the absence of international accountability of Israel as a "power of occupation" encouraged the ruling rightists in Israel, and their extremist supports, to accelerate settlement and judaization in occupied Jerusalem.
Negm called for rapid moves by the Arab and Islamic and the UN organizations and agencies, with the UNESCO on top, to halt the Israeli digging that threaten the mosque and the holy city.
He also warned of a five-year plan by Israel's Culture Minister Miri Regev to speed up digging in the Old City and near Al-Aqsa with the claim of excavating for antiquities.
Established in Cairo in December 2015, includes representatives of the Fatwa authorities from 35 countries, with the aim of promoting the religious discourse and effectively responding to issues related to Fatwa. (end) rg.msa
