JEDDAH, Jan 29 (KUNA) -- Acting Director General of Kuwait's Environment Public Authority (EPA) Nouf Behbehani Thursday reaffirmed Kuwait's absolute support for the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI).
Behbehani made the remarks while addressing the second session of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) Ministerial Meeting, held in Jeddah.
She added that Kuwait is ready to work side by side with member states to promote coordination, conserve natural resources and ensure a more sustainable environmental future for generations to come.
She also voiced Kuwait's deep appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its leading role in launching and spearheading the MGI, which has contributed to consolidating joint environment action at both regional and international levels and to deepening sustainability and environment protection concepts.
The Kuwaiti official, further, welcomed Ghana, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and Syria as new members of the initiative, underlying that this expansion reflects growing confidence in the MGI's goals and vision.
She added that the State of Kuwait stresses the significance of strengthening regional cooperation in the areas of combating land degradation, reducing desertification, scaling up efforts to restore vegetation cover, and enhancing drought resilience.
The Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) is a regional effort led by Saudi Arabia to mitigate the impact of climate change on the region and to collaborate to meet global climate targets.
By increasing regional cooperation and creating the infrastructure needed to reduce emissions and protect the environment, MGI can amplify impact in the global fight against climate change, whilst creating far-reaching economic opportunities for the region. (end)
