EU concerned over situation in Northern Syria
BRUSSELS, Jan 29 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said on Thursday that EU foreign ministers will discuss the fast moving developments in Syria and Iran during the Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
In press remarks upon her arrival at the meeting, Kallas expressed deep concern over the situation in Syria, particularly in the northern regions, noting that the presence of displacement camps in those areas makes the humanitarian situation "more fragile and dangerous." She added that she is in contact with regional partners as well as with the Iraqi Foreign Minister to examine the repercussions of the latest movements in the region.
She stressed that the European Union is exploring ways to steer developments towards a path that achieves stability, despite the fact that there are currently not many concrete proposals on the table.
Regarding Iran, Kallas confirmed that the European Union has decided to list a number of individuals and entities involved in acts of violence against protesters in Iran on the sanctions list, indicating that the direction is also towards listing the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.
