EU expresses great concern over violence in Syria's city of Aleppo

BRUSSELS, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The European Union on Thursday expressed its "great concern" over violence in the Syrian city of Aleppo following clashes between government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
EU spokesperson Anouar El Anouni told reporters at the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels that the EU "calls on all sides to exercise restraint, protect civilians and seek a peaceful and diplomatic solution".
Earlier, the EU announced a visit scheduled for this week by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa to the Syrian capital, Damascus, to hold talks with Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa. (end) arn.aa
