Kuwait: OIC states denounce Israeli occupation official's visit to Somalia's Somaliland

KUWAIT, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries strongly condemned the visit by an official of the Israeli occupation to Somaliland region in the northern part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Recalling their joint statement, dated December 27, 2025, the OIC ministers reaffirmed, in another statement, categorical rejection of the Israeli occupation's recognition of the separatist region and decry the illegal visit by the occupation's official thereto on January 6.
Today's statement is signed by the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Bangladesh, Union of the Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Indonesia, Kuwait, Iran, Libya, the Republic of Maldive, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Turkiye and Yemen.
The ministers consider the visit of the Israeli occupation official was a blatant violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial safety, which runs counter to the rules of international law and the UN Charter.
Renewing support to Somalia's sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity, the ministers stressed opposition to any separatist agendas that could worsen the already tense and fragile situation in the Horn of Africa region.
The OIC ministers underscore the importance of respect for rules of international law, the diplomatic norms and non-interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign countries, which form the cornerstone of regional and international stability. They affirmed support to the diplomatic and legal measures the Federal Republic of Somalia might take to preserve its sovereignty, and territorial integrity and safety in consistency with the rules of international law, according to the statement.
They highlighted the need of Israeli occupation showing respect for the sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity of Somalia, honoring their obligations under the international law and withdrawal their recognition of Somaliland immediately, the statement added. (end) nma.tab.gb
