CAIRO, July 16 (KUNA) -- Director General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) Ibrahim Al-Dukhairi welcomed on Wednesday the approval of an agreement with Kuwait to establish the Organization's Arabian Peninsula regional office in the Arab country.
He expressed deep appreciation for this support, saying it reflected Kuwait's wise leadership commitment to advancing agricultural development, bolstering regional food security, and strengthening Arab joint action for sustainable agricultural and food security.
Al-Dukhairi recalled Kuwait's call at the 31st Arab Summit in Algeria to activate a comprehensive, integrated Arab food security initiative.
He highlighted the importance of hosting the office in Kuwait amid economic and climate challenges facing Arab food producing and exporting countries; the Organization's 35th annual Arab Food Security report put the region's 2023 food gap at about USD 40.3 billion.
He added that choosing Kuwait aligns with its strategic location and central role in agricultural development, and complements AOAD's programs and strategies, including the Arab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy 2020-2030, the Arab Program for Sustainable Food Security, and the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Rangeland Resource Management 2020-2040, among others.
