RAMALLAH, July 16 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday warned against transferring the administration and supervision of the Ibrahimi Mosque from Al-Khalil municipality to a settlement council, according to Israeli occupation media outlets.
The ministry described the decision in a press statement as an unprecedented step in the occupation's efforts to impose its sovereignty over the mosque, and completely change its identity and features, in a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The ministry called on UNESCO and the international community to urgently intervene to stop the implementation of this decision, warning of its repercussions on the holy sites as a whole and on the conflict arena.
An occupation newspaper revealed that the occupation has taken an unprecedented step aimed at amending the status quo at the Ibrahimi Mosque by withdrawing the powers of the municipality and transferring them to the religious council in the Kiryat Arba settlement, built on the city's lands.
