Iraq condemns oilfield attacks in Kurdistan

IRBIL, July 15 (KUNA) -- Iraqi President Abdullatif Rashid condemned Tuesday the targeting of the Khurmala oilfields in Irbil Governorate and Sarsing in Dohuk Governorate in Iraq's Kurdistan Region.
In a statement, Rashid said that the recurrence of these attacks threatens security and stability in the country, weakens the foundations of the economy, targets the state's public interests and threatens citizens' safety.
He called for greater efforts to protect economic facilities and ensure a suitable environment for investment companies.
He also called on security agencies in the federal government in Baghdad and the regional government in Irbil to take appropriate and urgent measures to uncover the perpetrators and prevent the recurrence of these terrorist attacks.
The Sarsing oilfield, located in the Jamanki district of Dohuk Governorate, was attacked Tuesday by an explosive-laden drone, without causing any casualties, less than 24 hours after a similar attack targeted the Khurmala oilfield in Irbil Governorate Monday evening. (end) ahh.res
