EU Parliament rejects motion of censure Against European Commission
BRUSSELS, July 10 (KUNA) -- The European Parliament rejected on Thursday a motion of censure against the European Commission headed by President Ursula von der Leyen during a plenary session.
The motion was supported by 175 Members of the European Parliament while 360 voted against it, and 18 abstained. The proposal thus failed to reach the required threshold for adoption a two-thirds majority of the votes cast, which must also represent a majority of all MEPs.
The vote took place following a general debate held on Monday, which included the participation of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to the European Parliament's Rules of Procedure, a motion of censure against the Commission may be submitted by at least 10 percent of the Parliament's members meaning at least 72 MEPs, this particular motion was initiated by members affiliated with far-right political groups. (end) arn.dm
