CAIRO, Sept 13 (KUNA) -- Arab foreign ministers will have an "exceptional"
meeting next Thursday because they would discuss a host of important issues,
the Arab League said Monday.
Mohammad Al-Zaydi, Arab League secretary general's advisor, told reporters
the foreign ministers would discuss preparations for the extraordinary Arab
summit, due in Libya on October 9, and the Arab Economic and Social Summit in
Sharm El-Sheikh next January 19.
The Palestinian issue and direct negotiations with Israel will be discussed
by foreign ministers, he said, in addition to Israeli measures in occupied
Jerusalem, water security and Israel's stealing of water from occupied Arab
territories.
Al-Zaydi said the top diplomats will also discuss the situation in the
Syrian Golan Heights, solidarity with Lebanon, Iraq and ways of countering
international terrorism.
He noted that foreign ministers of the Arab summit troika - Qatar, Libya
and Iraq - would meet to follow up implementation of the resolutions of the
Arab summits. Another ministerial troika - Syria, Somalia and Iraq - and Arab
League secretary general Amr Moussa is to meet to discuss implementation of
the Sirt Arab summit.
Al-Zaydi said foreign ministers will also discuss the referendum in South
Sudan and hostilities in Somalia.
Permanent representatives to the Arab League will begin meetings tomorrow
to prepare agenda of the foreign ministers. (end)
