French president: Deployment of Western land troops in Ukraine possible

PARIS, May 2 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday said dispatch of land forces to Ukraine would not be ruled out in the event Russia "breached the lines." Macron, in an interview with the Economist, said the dispatch of troops to Ukraine would not be ruled out if Russia breached "the frontline" and if Kyiv asked for such aid.
The French president last February talked about the possibility of deploying Western forces on Ukrainian soil.
Russia has warned of dire consequences if the Western powers, namely NATO, intervene directly in the conflict in Ukraine.
