Kuwait's Ambassador to Belgium during the Seventh Senior Officials Meeting on Yemen
BRUSSELS, May 21 (KUNA) Kuwait's Ambassador to Belgium, Head of Mission to the EU and NATO, Nawaf Al-Enezi, reiterated steadfast support for peace and humanitarian efforts in Yemen.
This affirmation came during the Seventh Senior Officials Meeting on Yemen, held Wednesday in Brussels under the joint organization of the European Commission and the Kingdom of Sweden.
"I would like to thank the European Commission and the Kingdom of Sweden for organizing this important meeting to discuss the humanitarian situation in Yemen," Ambassador Al-Enezi said in his remarks.
He reiterated Kuwait's principled position in support of a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, stating, "The State of Kuwait reaffirms its firm position in support of efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen. We continue to support all initiatives led by the United Nations and based on the outcomes of the National Dialogue, the GCC Initiative, and relevant Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2216."
Ambassador Al-Enezi also welcomed the latest conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union, which called for renewed momentum in the peace process in Yemen.
"We commend the EU's commitment to advancing a peaceful resolution and welcome its call to reinvigorate peace efforts," he noted.
Highlighting Kuwait's contributions to humanitarian response in Yemen, he stated that Kuwait has provided more than USD 730 million in aid since the beginning of the crisis.
"Over the years, Kuwait has remained strongly committed to supporting the humanitarian response in Yemen," he said.
The ambassador emphasized Kuwait's support not only through direct humanitarian aid but also via development assistance.
"The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has carried out infrastructure projects in key sectors, aimed at improving the daily lives of the Yemeni people and strengthening resilience," he explained.
He further noted that the Kuwait Fund recently signed several agreements with the Government of Yemen to resume development projects, reduce the burden of debt service, and support essential public services.
"Additionally, the Fund signed an agreement with UNHCR to provide USD 2.1 million in support of projects aimed at rehabilitating the homes of displaced Yemenis, benefiting approximately 670 families," he added.
Ambassador Al-Enezi called on the international community to uphold its commitment to the Yemeni people.
"The needs in Yemen are growing due to ongoing conflict, displacement, and economic hardship. In such times, we urge the international community to continue joining efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis despite the pressure caused by declining funding," he said. (end)
