LONDON, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The UK hosted a meeting of senior NATO officials to discuss the alliance's plans for nuclear deterrence, said the British government on Friday.
According to a statement, the meeting "brought together NATO Ambassadors, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), and the Deputy Chair of the Military Committee (DCMC)."
The participants focused on key NATO policies and capabilities to meet the challenges in the Euro-Atlantic, the statement indicated.
It stressed the importance of strengthening the alliance's "nuclear policies of consultation and burden sharing; allowing all members to practice and participate in decision-making on these vital security issues."
"As the only European Ally to declare its nuclear deterrent to NATO, and the newest member to join of NATO's Dual Capable Aircraft (DCA) mission, the UK plays a leading role in shaping the Alliance's approach to nuclear deterrence. We will continue to stand with our Allies and take all necessary steps to preserve peace, prevent coercion, and deter aggression," the statement concluded. (end)
