Kuwait Ministry of Justice announces release of 39 civilian prisoners

KUWAIT, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Justice announced on Wednesday the release of 39 civilian prisoners on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and Kuwait's national holidays, as part of ongoing efforts to address the effects of financial hardship on affected families.
In a press release, the Ministry of Justice said that the Aid Committee in the General Directorate of Implementation at the Ministry held its meeting to review the conditions of those imprisoned for civil offenses and to discuss settling the dues of those in debt.
It noted that the meeting resulted in the payment of an amount of KD 114,779 (about USD 375,000) and the release of 39 detainees out of 72 cases that were studied, as part of ongoing efforts to address the effects of financial distress on affected families. (end) ns.nof.bb
