WASHINGTON, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump praised the successful completion of a deal transferring ownership of social media application TikTok to American investors, thanking Chinese President Xi Jinping for his final approval.
Trump said, Thursday, on his Truth Social platform, "I am so happy to have helped in saving TikTok! It will now be owned by a group of Great American Patriots and Investors, the Biggest in the World, and will be an important Voice."
He added that TikTok, alongside other factors, played a major role in securing strong support from young voters in the 2024 presidential election.
Trump thanked Vice President J.D. Vance and members of his administration for helping bring the deal to what he described as a "a very dramatic, final, and beautiful conclusion."
He also thanked President Xi Jinping, saying, "I would also like to thank President Xi, of China, for working with us and, ultimately, approving the Deal."
Earlier Thursday, Chinese-owned ByteDance announced the finalization of a deal to establish a joint company with majority ownership held by American partners, avoiding a potential ban on TikTok in the United States, where it is used by more than 200 million Americans. (end)
