ISLAMABAD, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- At least 12 "terrorists" were killed in clashes with the security forces in three different areas in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Friday.
According to Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), approximately 15 to 20 terrorists carried out multiple terrorist activities in Kharan City of Balochistan.
"Wherein, terrorists attacked City Police Station, National Bank of Pakistan and Habib Bank Limited," said ISPR.
The "terrorists" looted a heavy amount from the banks during the activity. Security forces effectively responded and engaged the terrorists, prompting them to retreat.
During the ensuing clearance operation, 12 terrorists were killed in three different engagements, confirmed ISPR.
Terrorists' design to create a hostage situation at the police station was also effectively thwarted, it added.
Sanitization operation continues in the surroundings to eliminate any other terrorists.
A relentless Counter Terrorism campaign by security forces and Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan will continue at full pace to wipe out the menace of foreign sponsored and supported terrorism from the country, the release by military concluded.
Balochistan Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti said that terrorists are misleading innocent students through social media and using them for their nefarious purposes, and a conspiracy is being hatched to push these youth into a futile war.
He thanked the security forces for their sacrifices, adding that the government is taking steps to make the security of banks across the province more effective.
The operation comes a day after at least 13 militants were killed in two separate engagements in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.
Pakistan is witnessing a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end)
