RIYADH, Dec 23 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia has welcomed the agreement signed in the capital of Oman, Muscat, on Tuesday on the exchange of prisoners in Yemen, terming it as a key humanitarian step which contributes to mitigating humanitarian suffering and boosting the chances of building confidence.
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed appreciation to sincere efforts and endeavors exerted by Oman while hosting the talks and backing negotiations efforts on December 20-23.
The ministry also lauded efforts exerted by UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg,the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and all parties partaking in these talks, it added.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia renewed its support for efforts aiming to achieve peace, security and stability in a manner that meets aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people.
Earlier today, the Yemeni government declared reaching a "semi full" deal with the Houthi militia on the release of 2,900 prisoners and detainees from both sides, as part of the 10th round of talks held over 12 days in Muscat, in the presence of Grundberg. (end)
