BRUSSELS, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- The European Union on Sunday strongly condemned the attack that took place at Bondi Beach in Australia, expressing shock over the resulting loss of life and affirming its solidarity with the Australian people and its support for the families of the victims.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on X that she was shocked by the tragic attack at Bondi Beach, offering her heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
She added that Europe stands with Australia and Jewish communities everywhere, stressing that "we are united against violence, antisemitism and hatred." For her part, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said in a similar post that she was deeply shocked by the "distressing images of the shooting during Hanukkah celebrations at Bondi Beach in Australia," emphasizing that "this appalling act of violence against the Jewish community must be unequivocally condemned." Kallas added that her thoughts were with "all those affected, their families, and the first responders who acted with courage," noting that "Australia is one of Europeآ’s closest friends, and we stand in full solidarity with the Australian people."
