Turkiye denounces terrorist attack on Syrian, US forces near Palmyra
ANKARA, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- Turkiye condemned on Sunday the so-called Islamic State (IS) attack in central Syria that targeted a joint Syrian-American patrol near Palmyra.
In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it denounced the attack on Syrian and US forces patrolling near Palmyra, and offered condolences to the families of those killed, as well as to the Syrian and US governments, partners in the Global Coalition Against so-called Islamic State (IS/Daesh).
Turkiye reiterated its continued support for Syrian government efforts to strengthen security and stability and to fight terrorism.
Syrian authorities said on Saturday that two Syrian security personnel and several US troops were wounded when a joint field patrol came under heavy gunfire near Palmyra.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the ambush killed three Americans -- two soldiers and one civilian -- and wounded three other service members. (end) oas.lr
