Pakistani security forces kill 14 militants in SW border area

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- Fourteen more militants were killed during the sanitization operation in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province against militant infiltrators from the borders with Afghanistan The figure took to 47 the militant deaths from the operation so far, said a press release from Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday.
Following a successful engagements by the security forces in general area Sambaza of Zhob District, a deliberate sanitization operation was conducted in surrounding areas of Sambaza along Pakistan-Afghanistan Border. During the operation, "14 more Indian sponsored" militants were hunted down and successfully neutralized, according to the military statement. Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the killed militants. The number of militants killed in two days of anti-infiltration operation has risen to 47, confirmed ISPR. "The security forces remain committed to secure the nation's frontiers and thwart attempts at sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Pakistan," the release concluded.
President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari in a statement reaffirmed the firm commitment to root out terrorism and said that the nation stands shoulder to shoulder with their security forces in the war against terrorism. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has also commended security, saying that the brave personnel of our security forces risked their lives to thwart the terrorists' infiltration and crushed their evil designs. He said the entire nation stands united with security forces in the fight against terrorism. The operations come a day after at least three soldiers of Pakistan army and four militants were killed in an attack targeting a security forces vehicle with an improvised explosive device in Balochistan province. Pakistan is witnessing a rise in terror attacks especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.gb
