UN official praises Kuwait-UN ties across multilateral coop.

KUWAIT, May 14 (KUNA) -- Representative of the UN Secretary General and UN Resident Coordinator in Kuwait Ghada Al-Taher affirmed, Wednesday, the ties between Kuwait and the UN was a leading model of multilateral cooperation rooted in shared values, sustainable development, and humanitarian action Speaking to KUNA on the 62nd anniversary of Kuwait admission to the UN, she noted that the occasion with the UN's 80 anniversary, emphasizing that the UN-Kuwait ties reflect diplomacy and solidarity. Al-Taher recalled a pivotal moment in this partnership when Security Council Resolution 678 supported Kuwait's sovereignty and liberation from the 1990 Iraqi invasion, a milestone that reinforced Kuwait's trust in the international system and its ongoing commitment to multilateralism. She praised Kuwait's humanitarian and development role even prior to joining the UN, recalling that the country's 2014 recognition as Humanitarian Center" and the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as "Humanitarian Leader" She pointed to Kuwait's active contributions during its non-permanent Security Council (UNSC) terms in 1978-1979 and 2018-2018, including promoting preventive diplomacy and mediation, hosting three donor conferences for Syria 2013-2015, as well as efforts related to Yemen, Iraq, Sudan, and Gaza. On developmental front, New Kuwait's 2035 Vision aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) revealing work is underway to finalize The Strategic Cooperation Framework (SCF) 2025-2028, which focus on youth and women empowerment, green economy and climate action. In 2023, Kuwait continued its responsible donor role by providing urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza, Syria, Turkiye, Sudan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Ukraine, she added. Al-Taher praised the speech by Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah at the 2024 UN's Summit of the Future, stressing fair representation in the UN system, as well as she reiterated the UN's commitment to working with Kuwait toward a just, inclusive, and sustainable future.
