KUWAIT, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Foreign Ministry and diplomatic mission in The Hague submitted a written pleading to International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeking an advisory opinion on Israeli occupation commitments towards presence and activities of the UN, international organizations and third countries in Palestine, mainly for providing main services, and development and humanitarian aid to Palestinians and their self-determination right.
The move taken on Friday is compatible with the UN General Assembly resolution No. 232/29 adopted in New York on December 19, 2024.
In a news statement, the Ministry said Kuwait's pleading revealed Israeli occupation's violation of the UN Charter and agreements, calling for the safety of the UN staff, and protecting its agencies and facilities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), including East Jerusalem.
The step pointed to the need of forcing the Israel occupation to comply with the rules of international law and international humanitarian law, and stop its aggression on the Gaza Strip which has been facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
It expressed its full confidence the ICJ's attention to Kuwait's pleading and other pleadings submitted by friendly and sisterly countries, and international organizations aiming to halt measures preventing offering main services and humanitarian aid to Palestinians, and respect international organizations' rights in the OPT.
The Ministry renewed Kuwait's unwavering and principled position supporting the Palestinian cause and all international efforts seeking to help Palestinian people get all their legitimate rights, according to the statement. (end)
