KUWAIT, July 25 (KUNA)

1979 -- A Group of local physicians established the Patients Helping Fund, Kuwait's first medical charitable institution.
1985 -- Saleh Shihab, best remembered for his efforts to institutionalize the tourism industry in Kuwait during the 1960s and 1970s, passed away at the age of 61. His last official post was assistant undersecretary for cultural and tourism affairs.
1987 -- State Security Court convicted two defendants and acquitted 30 others for circulating anti-state pamphlets, seeking to overthrow the legitimate authority through illegal means.
1999 -- Pioneering folklore singer Ameena Mubarak, better known as Umm Zayed, passed away.
2010 -- Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah signed decree 51/2010 to establish a (defaulters' fund) aimed at helping citizens unable to pay for consumer loans and installments prior to December 2009. The fund was under Ministry of Finance's jurisdiction.
2011 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah donated USD one million to launch relief campaign for Somalia.
2013 -- Kuwait launches campaign medically supporting Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
2015 -- Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company (KFMB) opened of the first factory for gluten-free products, the first of its kind in the Middle East.
2016 -- Ministry of Information started the implementation of law No. 8/2016 to regulate electronic media, which was approved and published in the official state newspaper.
2019 -- The Kuwait Petroleum Spain, a subsidiary of the state-owned Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI), also known by its trademark Q8, acquired 67 fueling stations from the Saras Energia-Spain. The acquisition expands Q8 network in Spain to 77 stations.
2019 -- Kuwait donated USD five million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
2019 -- Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) opened Sabah Al-Ahmad center for physical rehabilitation in Sri Lanka. The center offers assistance and prosthetics to victims of traffic accidents.
2021 -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) earned a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for an innovative technology, which works as a water desalination device and an air conditioner simultaneously. (end) gta
