VIENNA, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Polish health authorities on Wednesday confirmed 16 Coronavirus deaths and 811 infections.
In a statement, the health ministry said that the virus death toll climbed to 1,844 , while the total number of confirmed infections surged to 54,487.
A total of 37,961 patients have recovered of the virus since its outbreak in Poland, with about two million COVID-19 tests.
The statement added that 2,059 people are getting health care in hospitals, 82 of them are in the intensive care units.
Polish Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski had recently announced that infections have increased dramatically in 19 provinces during the past two weeks, and restrictions in various Polish regions will be re-imposed.
Poland had reopened its borders with other European Union countries in an attempt to revitalize the economy, ending its lockdown measures in place since mid-March. (end)
