EU calls for de-escalation in Idlib

BRUSSELS, Feb 29 (KUNA) -- The President of the European Council Charles Michel, in a phone call with Turkish President Tayyap Erdogan Saturday, expressed his condolences over the loss of life of Turkish soldiers and his deep concern over the untold human suffering the ongoing fighting has caused in Idlib.
Michel in a statement called on all actors to deescalate and commit to a sustainable and long lasting ceasefire and a political solution in line with UNSC Resolutions.
Over the last days, Michel said he has also been in close contact with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Bulgarian prime ministers Boyko Borissov to follow the migration situation.
The EU is actively engaged to uphold the EU-Turkey agreement on migration and to support Greece and Bulgaria to protect the EU's external borders, he added. (end) nk.mb
