Turkey says fourth ship set to drill in E. Mediterranean

ANKARA, July 16 (KUNA) -- A fourth Turkish ship will begin drilling for oil and natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday.
Turkey will increase its activities in the Eastern Mediterranean and will send its fourth ship to the region, state-run Anadolu news agency cited the minister as saying amid a press conference while on an official visit to North Macedonia.
"They (EU) should understand that they cannot cope with such methods with Turkey. We decide about what we will do in our own continental shelf," Cavusoglu said.
Last month, EU leaders warned Turkey to end its gas drilling in disputed waters or face consequences after Greece and Cyprus pressed other EU states to take action.
Turkey does not have diplomatic relations with Cyprus but claims that certain areas in Cyprus's offshore maritime zone fall under its jurisdiction. (end) rs.nam
