NATO chief: Europe and US need each other

BRUSSELS, June 28 (KUNA) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Thursday called on the US and Europe to stand together to face the current global challenges.
"Europe and North America need each other especially now when we see security threats, challenges we havenآ’t seen for many decades. We have to stand together, Europe and North America," he told reporters ahead of a meeting with EU leaders.
"And NATO-EU cooperation is part of this transatlantic relationship, and therefore I also look very much forward to signing a joint declaration between President (of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, President (of the European Council Donald) Tusk and me before the NATO Summit," he stated.
"And NATO and the EU are addressing the root causes through our presence in countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, helping to stabilise our neighbourhoo," said the NATO chief.
"But we also work together in the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean. Currently NATO has 10 ships and maritime patrol aircraft helping to implement the agreement between Turkey and the EU to curb the flow of migrants over the Aegean Sea," he added. (end) nk.mt
