Sports stadium blasts kill 8, wounds 45 people in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (KUNA) -- At least eight people were killed and around 45 others wounded in multiple explosions at a sports stadium in Jalalabad city of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, said AN official on Saturday.
Provincial governor's spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani told media that three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) went off at the stadium during a cricket event.
The first explosion occurred close to the commentary box after some government officials entered the stadium. The deputy mayor of the city was killed while national sports players were among the injured. The injured were shifted to the nearest hospitals where condition of several wounded was reported critical.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the multiple blasts but Taliban rebels have denied the group's involvement in the attack.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday strongly condemned the attack saying, "The terrorists did not stop killing our people even during the holy month of Ramadan," adding that the attack once again "proved that they are not bound to any creed or religion, and they are the enemy of humanity".
