AIDEMO aims at comprehensive Arab economic integration

RABAT, April 24 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait will host the 25th Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO) General Assembly, due to kick off later on Tuesday.
The Kuwait meeting, due to proceed until April 26, aims at further bolstering AIDEMO major role in developing Arab economies through investment and industry.
The organization, established back in 1988 and operates under the supervision of the Arab League, aims at achieving quality and productivity in the industrial and mining sectors and encourages creativity, innovation, and knowledge seeking. It calls for enhancing technology to attract investments, which will in return will create more job opportunities.
In order to achieve the desired objectives, AIDEMO works in coordination with Arab ministries, governmental bodies, and similar-minded organizations concerned with meeting the challenges and development of the industrial sector on both regional and international levels.
AIDEMO cooperates also with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Swedish Development Corporation (Sida), Arab Organization for Science, Education and Culture (ISESCO), and the Islamic Development Bank.
During the period 2014-2018, the organization managed to achieve significant success, during the leadership of Kuwaiti engineer Adel Al-Saqer.
The State of Kuwait contributed financially and technically to the Organization within the framework of its commitment to the principle of supporting joint Arab action in all fields.
Kuwait made remarkable initiatives to promote economic and social development in the Arab world.
The most important was the initiative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the Arab economic and social summit held in Kuwait in 2009 which resulted in the establishment of a fund to support and finance small and medium-sized projects with a capital of USD 500 million to improve the living conditions of Arab citizens.
The Organization has carried out the implementation of the Arab Strategy for quality measurement and promotion of Arab Economic Integration, which was awarded by several international bodies such as the International Laboratory Accreditation Organization and the International Accreditation Forum.
It organized many conferences, forums, and economic activities to contribute in creating the basic requirements for the economic integration and sustainable development in the Arab countries. (end) mry.nhq
