32 Chinese killed in major N. Korea traffic accident

TOKYO, April 23 (KUNA) -- A tourist bus fell from a bridge in North Korea, killing 32 Chinese tourists, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported Monday.
The accident, which occurred on Sunday night in North Hwanghae Province, south of Pyongyang, also killed four North Korean personnel, foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang told a press briefing in Beijing. According to the spokesman, two Chinese tourists were seriously injured and are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, China dispatched a working group with medical experts to North Korea in the aftermath of the mishap, the report said.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked the ministry and the embassy in Pyongyang to immediately take "all necessary means" to handle the accident, the report noted, adding that Xi also called for closer attention to safety issues. (end) mk.nam
