Arab countries' cooperation help in eliminating terror - Iraq PM

BAGHDAD, Jan 29 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Abadi said Monday close cooperation among Arab countries contributed to decline of terrorism in the region, calling for promotion of economic and social relations among Arab people to achieve security and political stability.
Arab countries joined hands in pursuit terrorists and cutting their funding resources, and this helped Iraq in its war against terrorism thus enabling it to eliminate so-called Islamic State (IS), Abadi said in an interview with Al-Arabiya satellite channel.
Relations among the Arab countries, he said, should include promotion of investment and economic cooperation.
Abadi said Saudi Arabia promised to contribute effectively in an international conference for the reconstruction of Iraq, due in Kuwait on February 12-14.
Cooperation between Iraq and Saudi arabia in oil domain contributed to stability of oil prices, he said.
Abadi, meanwhile, said Iraq wold be holding general elections according to schedule.
He said the Iraqis were stronger and united more than before following the defeat of IS.
On corruption, the prime minister said the government was determined to pursue the corrupt to face trial. (end) ahh.bs
