KUWAIT, June 3 (KUNA) -- Japanese plants have been used increasingly to
decorate Kuwaiti homes with an exotic touch; one of the most popular is the
bonsai plant.
The bonsai is the Japanese aesthetic art of miniaturizing trees by growing
them in containers which started in the 12th century.
Local plant nursery owners told KUNA, the plant is confined to a small pot.
The pot uses very little fertilizer and the crown and roots are pruned
religiously to keep the plant under 60cm in height.
The bonsai needs continuous care as it needs warm temperature, high
humidity and plenty of light.
Bonsai plant prices range from KD 7-500 according to the tree kind.
Although the art form originates from China and Japan, it is mainly
imported to Kuwait from Europe, the Netherlands specifically.
Shireen Abu Al-Hada, a bonsai tree owner said its exotic Japanese shape is
the main reason she's interested in the tree.
The bonsai is the center of conversation whenever guests visit her house,
she added.(end)
