Turkyie imposes temporary measures on cross-border travel with Iran
ISTANBUL, March 2 (KUNA) -- Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bulat announced Monday that Ankara has decided to impose temporary restrictions on daily passenger movement across border crossings with Iran.
Bulat said in a statement that commercial truck movement will continue on a limited basis across the three border crossings between the two countries, while passenger crossings have been suspended reciprocally.
Under the new rules, Turkyie will only admit its own citizens and nationals of other countries arriving from Iran, while Iran will permit only its citizens to cross into Turkyie through the border gates.
The minister added that the recent measures were based on Turkish authorities' assessments of recent regional developments, with all necessary preparations made to address emergencies and changing conditions, including enhanced staffing and reinforced border monitoring infrastructure.
Turkyie shares three border crossings with Iran, located in the provinces of Agri, Van, and Hakkari. (end) ta.ahm
