Egypt's Pres. warns against impacts of closing Strait of Hormuz

CAIRO, March 1 (KUNA) -- Egypt's President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi affirmed on Sunday his country's rejection of any attack against any state, warding against the repercussions of shutting down the Strait of Hormuz and the continuation of this war.
Al-Sisi made the statement during the Iftar (fast-breaking) ceremony held annually by Egypt's Armed Forces on the victory of the 10th of Ramadan, the October War on October 6, 1973, Egyptian presidential spokesman Mohammed Al-Shennawi said in a statement.
Egypt has exerted strenuous efforts over the past months to bring views closer and for mediation between the US and Iran to avoid the eruption of this crisis, out of realization that wars have negative impacts on countries, according to the statement.
Egypt has been keen on avoiding escalation, and working for a truce and stopping the war, Al-Sisi affirmed.
The recent developments are rapidly accelerating and have dangerous repercussions on the region's balance, he noted.
He cautioned that closing the Strait of Hormuz would directly influence on the flow of oil and global prices, along the Suez Canal.
Egypt has already been financially affected since the start of the Israeli occupation aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Al-Sisi stated.
As part of the region, Egypt is affected by any events take place, he said, referring to contacts he made with GCC and Arab leaders to affirm support for brothers to face this crisis.
"There is no fear in Egypt after taking required precautions although the continuation of this crisis is unclear," Al-Sisi stressed. (end) mm.hm
