US-Iran nuclear talks resume 3rd round in Geneva, mediated by Oman

GENEVA, Feb 26 (KUNA) -- The third round of indirect Iran-US nuclear talks began Thursday amid escalating tensions, with an unprecedented US military buildup raising fears of renewed conflict.
Oman's Foreign Ministry announced on X that Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi would meet the US team, led by Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, this morning to convey Iran's draft proposal.
On Wednesday evening, Al-Busaidi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss recent developments and Iran's expected proposals, aiming for an agreement based on prior rounds' principles.
Al-Busaidi reaffirmed Oman's commitment to facilitating dialogue, bridging gaps, and achieving sustainable solutions on Iran's nuclear program.
Earlier this week, Araghchi posted on X: "Iran is determined to reach a fair and equitable agreement in the shortest possible time." He added, "We have a historic opportunity to strike an unprecedented agreement that addresses mutual concerns and achieves mutual interests. A deal is within reach but only if diplomacy is given priority." Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, represent the US; Araghchi leads Iran's delegation.
Al-Busaidi mediates indirect communications, building on previous rounds in Muscat and Geneva.
Iran asserts its sovereign right to "peaceful nuclear enrichment" under international law and seeks sanctions relief.
The US accuses Iran of reviving its nuclear program and developing ballistic missiles capable of reaching American soil - a direct security threat, which Iran denies. (end) imk.lr
