Egypt, Jordan stress full implementation of Gaza ceasefire, reject Palestinian displacement

CAIRO, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah II on Sunday stressed the necessity of the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, working with the US President's peace plan, and launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
In a statement, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamad El-Shennawy said the remarks came during talks held in Cairo on the occasion of King Abdullah's visit to Egypt.
The two leaders reaffirmed Egypt's and Jordan's firm and unwavering position, rejecting any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land, as well as their rejection of all violations and arbitrary practices committed against the Palestinian people, the statement said.
They also emphasized that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only path to achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The statement noted that the talks also addressed developments in several regional countries, stressing the importance of de-escalation, reducing regional tensions, enhancing joint action to preserve stability, resolving crises through peaceful means, and respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, as well as safeguarding the resources of their peoples.
The two sides agreed to continue political consultations and intensify coordination in a manner that supports regional peace and stability.
Regarding bilateral relations, the statement expressed satisfaction with the development witnessed across all fields, emphasizing the need to further strengthen ties and prepare for the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee.
President Al-Sisi underscored the special fraternal relations between the two countries and the importance of advancing them to meet the interests and aspirations of the two brotherly peoples, while King Abdullah expressed his appreciation for the strong bonds of brotherhood and fruitful cooperation between Egypt and Jordan, affirming his country's keenness to continue working with Egypt to expand bilateral relations and enhance political consultation on issues of mutual concern.
