30 opposition activists killed in Uganda vote-related violence

RABAT, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- Chief of Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) Muhoozi Kainerugaba said Friday that 30 opposition supporters were killed and more than 2,000 others detained during the "acts of violence" that broke out after the presidential elections. Blaming the acts of violence on the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), he said, in an X post on Friday, that a large number of the detained hooligans belong to it.
Kainerugaba is the eldest son of President Yoweri Museveni, 81, who was reelected for a seventh term last Saturday. (end) mry.gb
