Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Thursday that the first trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States will be held later this week in the United Arab Emirates without specifying whether direct or indirect talks.
This came during his address to the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos following what he described as a highly productive meeting with his US counterpart Donald Trump.
Stressing that the Russian side must be prepared to make concessions, Zelensky noted that the documents aimed at ending the war in Ukraine which have been prepared in coordination with the US are now "almost ready."
He underscored the importance of US security guarantees saying that "the security guarantees proposed by the Europeans to prevent a new Russian invasion would not be sufficient without the involvement of the United States."
He also expressed regret over the lack of "political will" within the European Union in dealing with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing the need to establish "European armed forces". (end)
