NEW DELHI, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Indian authorities on Thursday condemned an incident of trespassing and vandalism at its Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia by anti-India elements.
A statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the incident of trespassing and vandalism by Khalistani activists at the Indian Embassy in Croatian capital Zagreb.
"Under the Vienna Convention, diplomatic premises are inviolable and must be protected. Accordingly, we have taken up the matter strongly with Croatian authorities, both in New Delhi and in Zagreb and asked them to hold the perpetrators accountable for their reprehensible and illegal actions," the statement said.
The Indian statement came after activists from Sikh separatist Khalistani movement engaged in provocative act of vandalism and trespassed into the Indian Embassy in Zagreb. The Sikh separatists removed the Indian flag and replaced it with a Khalistani flag and painted pro-Khalistan slogans on the walls.
Khalistan activists demanding a separate homeland for the Sikh people in Punjab have targeted Indian missions in several countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and now in Croatia. (end)
