DOHA, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's national team defeated Bahrain 2-1 on Thursday in the third round of the Gulf U-23 Football Cup held in Doha, Qatar.
The first half ended with Kuwait leading by two goals, scored by Ahmad Boudai in the 15th minute and Montasir Suleiman in the 31st minute.
In the second half, Bahrain scored in the 67th minute through Ali Al-Dosari, but the match ended in Kuwait's favor.
In the second match of the same group, held at the same time, Qatar drew with Saudi Arabia 1-1, with both teams sharing the points.
With this result, Qatar and Saudi Arabia qualified for the semifinals of the tournament with seven points each, while Kuwait placed third with three points and Bahrain finished fourth with no points.
The first- and second-place teams in each group advance to the semifinals, where the winner of Group A will face the runner-up of Group B, and the winner of Group B will face the runner-up of Group A.
The two semifinal winners will advance to the final match, which will be held at Stadium 974 in Doha.
The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups: Group A includes Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, while Group B comprises Iraq, the UAE, Oman, and Yemen.
The Gulf U-23 Football Cup kicked off in Doha on December four and will continue until the December 16. This is the first edition organized under the umbrella of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation. (end)
