Kuwait Assistant FM discusses human rights, economy with UN expert

KUWAIT, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah held talks on Wednesday with Attiya Warris, the UN Independent Expert on Foreign Debt, about the State of Kuwait's relentless efforts in the realms of human rights and the economy.
The talks tackled in particular Kuwait's endeavors for boosting diversification of income, transparency and sound governance.
In remarks to KUNA, Sheikha Jawaher said she informed Warris, during the meeting at the foreign ministry headquarters, about the national accomplishments at the levels of human rights and the economy.
State reforms that have been undertaken serve objectives of sustainable development, economic and social rights for the citizens particularly in the sectors of education, health and labor, Sheikha Jawaher said.
The accomplishments that have made were in line with guidelines of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the assistant foreign minister noted, while affirming the State of Kuwait's commitment to social justice and sustainable development.
The State of Kuwait, according to its development vision, neo Kuwait 2035, as a member in the Un Council for Human Rights (2024-2026), is proceeding with establishing bridges of cooperation with the UN, its various agencies including the Human Rights Council to back up these rights, she added.
She also alluded to Kuwait's leading role in backing international and regional initiatives in the sphere of human rights, indicating at exchanging expertise with the UN Independent Expert to address issues such as external debts, international financial obligations, along with continuing the constructive dialogue with the UN agencies to shed light on the national efforts and the present challenges.
The State of Kuwait prepared a program for the expert's mission including visits to the ministries of finance, commerce and industry and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Sheikha Jawaher elaborated.
She affirmed the State of Kuwait's readiness to cooperate with the expert, re-affirming that her visit was an opportunity to shed light on the national achievements and the future plans at these levels. (end) ajr.rk
