Nigerian Army announces killing of 35 militants

ALGIERS, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- The Nigerian Army announced on Saturday that it had conducted airstrikes targeting terrorist positions near the border with Cameroon, resulting in the death of 35 militants.
In a statement, the Nigerian Air Force confirmed that the airstrikes were launched after receiving intelligence information indicating that the militant group was planning to attack the ground forces.
Air Force spokesman Ehimen Egudame stated that the raids focused on four militant assembly points.
This operation is part of an ongoing campaign in the northeast of Nigeria. The Nigerian army stated last week that it had killed 592 armed militia members over the past eight months in this region. (end) mr.ara
